Tool Joint Compound

One of the main failures of components in the drill string of any drilling method (Top Hammer, DTH, rotary, wireline etc.) is the wear and failure of threads, in rods, couplings, bits etc which is mainly due to a phenomenon called galling.

Thread Compound is designed to provide the maximum protection for tool joint threads and shoulders over a wide variety of conditions. They prevent galling and wear plus ensure consistent rig floor make up while providing resistance to further make up downhole. The thread compound is critical to the wear life of the joint. In order to prevent wear, metallic particulate in the compound forms an inner layer that is able to withstand the contact pressure and prevent the mating surfaces from interacting. A poor choice of compound or diluted compound will allow the mating surfaces to interact, resulting in adhesion or abrasion wear.

Rock Drill Oil

Rock drill oil has been developed to provide lubricity and anti-wear properties to protect percussion tools including rock drills operating under arduous conditions. High quality rock drill oil provides chemical stability and protection against wear, rust and corrosion. It also has good adhesiveness and preferential metal wetting properties that maintain continuous oil film even in presence of water and thereby reduce the negative effects of water, condensed from moisture carried along with the air stream, on wear and corrosion.
